Thursday riding and stuff

Mr. Crook and myself had a most excellent ride on the Corby trails and both Girlscout trails yesterday. A month of surfing has NOT helped my cycling fitness. I coughed hard once and Crook got a piece of lung stuck on his Oakleys. Andy Clements had the poles delivered to Krug. He also said he can get a bobcat to drag what we want where, but just maybe on a Friday afternoon. We need to know what we want where, have it cut and ready, and they will do the dragging. The nettles are already getting tall on North, as witnessed by my itching legs today. Weedeating is in our near future. Howsabout a Crowder trip on May 9th? That's a Sat I think. They have real showers and shitters for those of you with tender bums.Peace

Utility Poles for Krug

There is now a big pile of utility poles up at Krug. It will no doubt take some serious manpower and perhaps a 4x4 quad to get them into the trails. Fun...

Bone Bender

Race ON!
The Bone Bender 3/6 hour is running rain or shine. The awesome Smithville Trail Crew is prepping the course today and hoping the rain stays south as predicted right now. We may get some precipitation, but we will be running the race either way. We've got 70+ registered racers so we will probably see the field swell to well over 125 by race time.

Looks like its going to be wet this week…

Saturday was perfect; Jim, Brad and I got a good ride in. Well, at least Jim and I did, we think Brad had the brown bottle flu. Did all 4 trails and they are in pretty good shape.
Back side if Girlscout has some wet spots but other than that the riding was nice.

Well is it going to snow any more? that darn global warming. Jp wants to get together for a mtb ride monday night or urban ride if the trails are too wet or snowy. Utility Pole Update

I met with KCP&L regarding donation of old utility poles. The available supply is less than stellar as far as length of poles and the donation is in the hands of their legal dept for now.
If I understood correctly, their regular clean up contractor was already given the green light to pick up the entire supply, thus if the donation isn't approved quickly, there may not be any poles available.

Regarding lengths, there are a couple poles perhaps in the 24ft range and maybe a few more around the 16ft we needed, but otherwise most of the stock is less than 8ft... or much shorter. In other words, our wish list of 28 poles at least 16ft in length won't be happening anytime soon as far as KCP&L availability. I do appreciate the consideration they're making. I hope to hear back soon.

I suggest that the mtb group start searching for alternative sources or materials.

JP sent the jerseys up to the shop and they are ready to pick up. The bone bender in coming up soon April 18th. JP wants to get together soon for a team ride and maybe a BBQ at my house or Greg's back yard. I'll keep everyone posted.

OK, I checked both (FT) Fat Tire Series and (PS) Psycowpath Series and here are upcoming races that are four hours or less drive time.
April 4th – (PS) Maskentine, Norfolk NE (4 hrs away)
April 19th – (FT) Le Tour de Tick, Neosho MO (3hrs)
May 2nd – (PS) River City Shootout, Bellevue NE (2hrs)
May 9th – (PS) Battle Royale, Platt River NE (????)
May 23rd – (PS) Lewis and Clark, Council Bluffs IA (2hrs)

Howsabout a work day at Krug if the race cancels?

You have the time off, the weather isn't suitable for much else, and I want to see a couple others try to keep up with Dave and his big Stihl saw running wide open. Jason and I fell behind the last time we cleaned up behind Dave. He was apparently on a mission, and succeeded quite well at keeping our a$$es busy! Let's do 3-4 hours, then get Jason to buy us lunch and beer somewhere...in fact, let's insist on it. 8am in the back of Krug on 2nd street.

Currently the trails at Smithville Lake are closed due to recent snow fall and rains. Jp needs shirt sizes and ages for everyone racing so we can get everyone signed up right. Marin and maybe Haro are sending us demo bikes to race at the bone bender. Marin is sending a Med. and Lrg. Mt. Vision and Haro maybe a Sonics. These are great modles for endurance racing.

If your looking to ride, Sunbrige is dry. There is no since in tearing up the Corby’s if there is a dry place to ride in town.

BoneBender!!!

Anyone on the team who is planning to race the Bone Bender on March 14th at Smithville Lake, please post to this blog. I will need your name and category that you will be racing. I would like to contact the promoter next by Friday Feb. 27th with a team head count. I guess I would need your name, first and last, age group, category, etc. This is one of the team sponsored races, so entry is paid for by our generous sponsors. It is much easier to write one check for the team, than reimburse everyone individually. If you have already registered no problem, I will issue you a check at the race.

Jersey's will be in, hopefully, by the first week of March. What I would like to do, is have a meeting at Force of Nature on Monday Night March 9th to hand out jerseys and have our first team meeting. Time will be determined, but we could try to do a ride and then the meeting, since daylight savings will begin on March 8th? Just a thought?

I am looking forward to riding and racing with you all in 2009! New daddy duties have kept me from riding much the last 3 weeks, but I plan on living on the bike a lot starting this weekend! Time to get ready for 2009!!

P.S. Let's take some of that stimulus money and ask the parks department for money to provide a bike patrol on the trails for the weekends. That would kick some people off there horses and out of the trails??

Horses & Motorcycles @ Krug!

This past Saturday while hiking with family, a couple on horses passed us going up the hill south of waterfall & tearing it up.  I asked them if they were supposed to be there and the man said they could.  Also saw fresh motorcycle tracks in the same area.  Nothing worst for groomed trails than the destructive power of horse hoofs or irresponsible motor heads spinning out their rear wheels.

This is the first sign of horses in the years I've been playing back there.  If indeed horses are allowed and this is only the first of more horse & motorcycle outings to come, we can say goodbye to descent mtb riding and ya guys might as well stop all the current hard work on relocating trails.  Cause as Lansen and I got to experience first hand about a year ago in Waubonsie SP, the trails will turn to shitt... literally!

Bridges for Krug

KCP&L (T&D) has indicated the potential for donation of utility poles for trail bridges. I'm working with them on the details as far as the "red tape" is concerned, but I would like to know how many bridges and what spans you're looking at, so we'll know how many poles to ask for. I believe it would be in everyone's best interest to follow the specs set out in the engineered plans contained on the IMBA site. KCP&L needs specifics to provide a level of comfort from the liability side of things.

Please let me know if someone has already made other arrangements for bridge materials, so I can disregard if that is the case. The local plant manager is a relative, so I asked him to check on it for me.
