More pics from Sat, RIM

The St. Joe RIM crew..

I think you will reconginze the three knuckelheads on the left. DCrook, CHoppey, RTracy (hippy).

JP and company on the right. Crook got them on the last lap in the middle of a crazy downpour.
Your laptimes were crazy good and consisitent.

Me on the right, pretty pumped, its my first potium EVER.... I did pass the number 4 guy in the last 30 yards to get it. I think he was changing out his water bottle or some s#!t. Owe well, he passed me while I was putting air in my front tire. Should have been paying attention...
I don't care, I am taking it!!!! Thought I heard Chariots of fire?????? ;)

Crook and I for the start.. Kinda glad I did some trial running this past month.

Pic of Hoppey. I am sure going like a bat out of hell..

Crook on a log crossing.

Me, same crossing, somehow don't look as graceful... Anyway...
I think this is Crook, but not sure...
Thats all I could find on heartlands website. Hippy, I can't believe I could not find one damn picture of you out there...
For race results, pics, etc...........
These guys at heartland put on the best races hands down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great job all! It is cool to go to a race as a team and everyone get on the damn podium! Impressive! We had a 6 min. lead going into that last lap, leading all day, rain and a broken chain by Gary, who put in a 3 mile run to finish and keep a podium spot! That is racing for you, you just have to keep going...You guys were so close to catching 1st place...I think it was less than a minute split, which is impressive for a freaking endurance race...

We have a great group of riders! We need to get together this Fall and winter and map out some races for 2010! We will make our way up from KC to get Krug broken in for sure.

I really enjoyed seeing you guys and next year, let's get a third team for a podium sweep!!!

Cross season is coming in less than 4 weeks! I will be doing most of them as that is what I have focused on for this year...Let me know if anyone plans on doing some cross racing.

Later,

JP

I will be racing the KC Cup! Swope is not bad except for one section that I have yet to ride over...I practice my cyclocross on that section...

Krug update... Randy installed 3' wide cross planking on the first bridge leading to the treehouse trail today which should be a big improvement as the drop off that bridge is substantial. He also upgraded the last two plank bridge we had installed a few weeks ago by installing additional bottom ties and chicken wire for traction. Lastly we dismantled the off camber bridge (old red bridge location) and built a new bridge using 6 x 6 treated lumber for the span and topped it off with 3' wide x 3" thick bridge planks... Huge improvement over what was there.
On another note, both Randy and I (and hopefully David Crook) plan to be racing in the KC Cup which will be just one week after we get back from our Moab / Crested Butte trip... Perfect timing and hopefully a slight improvement on our fitness assumming no major mishaps on the trip!!

St. Joe really took the podium. Two of us from Team Cow Town live here in St. Joe. That was a fun race. See you guys on the trails.

Don't be bashful, come out riding with us.....

Sounds like a good idea, when are you guys riding Krug next? I would like to get a lap in with some guys that are familiar with it. I cannot think of anyone better than the ones who did all of the work.

Have you guys thought of organizing a weekly ride in the evenings? I bet you could have a pretty good turn out.

we could plan on sat morning at 8 am at the top o krug if we don't get anymore rain. The trails weren't sloppy last night, but were plenty wet. If they were already packed it would be diff, but they are still soft in most places. Everyone make some calls and let's see if we can get a good group that morning. Randy Tracy aka the hippie

Great job everyone, Man I'm still steaming about breaking that chain! Just bought that chain (Dura ace) a week ago, I guess I'm gonna have to lose some power in my quads so it doesn't happen again! LOL

I will not be able to ride tomorrow morning until 9. I promised my wife I would go to the farmers market with her. Maybe I will join you guys for your second lap. See you at krug.

Gary, NEVER run a shimano chain on a mtb. They shift the best of any and work great on the road, but you cross chain em on a mtb and they go pop. Sram chains dont shift quite as crisp but have greater tensile strength by far. Surprisingly (to me anyway) the 9 speed chains tensile strength is much higher than the single speed chains. Dont know why. Dont care why. I just velonews did tensile tests and my own anecdotal evidence supports this. Sram 950 chains seem to be the best per cost vs performance for this fat man. AS they say free advice is worth about what it costs, so there you go. the hippie

Thanks Hippie, I will keep that in mind when I replace it next week. I'm sure the 5 lbs of mudd didn't help either. G

Mud + rocks + rain + night riding = equipment failure, regardless of brands used. We are all damn lucky there were as few flats as there were. I try not to venture very far off the center line and it seems to help minimize the flats. Jason, on the other hand, seems to explore more than most and gets more than his share. Live and learn baby! rt

Had to patch 6 tubes!! Had none left without a hole in it...

I converted to the stans no tubes kit on my mavic 317's and it worked great! no flats yet! G
