Chainsaw Kenny

Went for a steady little jaunt this morning through the Corby's and Girlscout trails. Things were a little slippery due to melting frost, but it was a decent ride.

On my way back through the other direction I ran into Chainsaw Kenny and his buddy in Corby South. They tell me they have permission to cut down trees for fire wood. I said cool, and asked if they would be willing to do trail work too. Kenny said if there's wood in it for him, he's all over it. Anyway, sounds like we'll have another chainsaw for Saturday.

You never know who you're going to meet in the woods.

I am a little skeptical of the "permission" thing. I have never heard of the city doing that.
They usually cut their own deadwood on park property. I would hate to have us get blamed for "clear cutting".

That does not sound right to me either..

The city has been looking for those two guys. When Randy and I were cutting last week the city stopped buy to make sure we weren't poaching fire wood. The city knows who we are and thats cool but we don't need to get involved with these two guys. We want to keep the city happy.

I thought it was kind of funny. These guys were following some kind of rules though, because they were lamenting that they couldn't take anything at about the 8" diameter, cause it was all standing up. When I rolled up, they were hacking at one of those giagantic fallen trees, which was a helluva lotta work for them.

Anyway, I won't call these guys in - you're absolutely right - above all we want to keep the city folks happy. It's pretty rare when you run across a group as willing to work with the MTB community as this group of officials is.

Great....I've been out there several times with my chain saw. The last thing I want is to be mistakenly accused of poaching firewood. Of course, it should be pretty obvious that I'm not cutting trees for the wood, but you never know....
